Kilwinning Orchestral Flutes was reformed in 1951. Until June 2013, the group was known as Kilwinning Amateur Prize Flute Band; the name was changed to reflect the group’s current focus. We run on a strictly equal opportunities basis and have no affiliation to any political, religious or sectarian organisations.
Rehearsals are held at our premises in Alexandra Terrace, Kilwinning, on Wednesdays 7.30–9.00pm. We rehearse weekly throughout the year, with a short break over Christmas. To assist with running costs (e.g., hall upkeep, music, and instrument repair), there is a membership fee of £120/year (£10/month), with significant reductions for under-18s, students, and low-waged persons.
New members do not need to audition; any player wishing for extra help may come along to our learners’ class. The group owns several instruments which can be loaned (free of charge) to members. All music is provided free of charge.
Our repertoire is largely chosen (and often arranged) by our conductor and President, William Young.
The group is run by a committee, with posts elected within the group. Meetings are held monthly.
We are a member of the Scottish Amateur Flute Association and the British Flute Society.
